Achievement Matters - Winter 2017

Dear Friends of JA New York,

Happy 2017! Here at JA New York, we are energized and looking forward to many exciting things to come this year. Our Mobile Finance Park has just launched at a new location in midtown, so now is the time to sign up to volunteer (see below). Plans are also underway for the 10th anniversary of the JA New York high school Business Plan Competition. We also continue to scout locations for a permanent Finance Park facility and plan to kick off a capital fundraising campaign with a range of available partnership opportunities in the near future. Stay tuned for updates.

In addition, we are piloting Junior Achievement’s new blended learning curricula for our middle school and high school partners in order to take advantage of technology improvements in the classroom. Blended learning programs are an enhancement of JA’s traditional kit-based curricula and offer volunteers a more dynamic method of interacting with the students they serve. We look forward to collaborating with our school partners and our volunteers as we embrace this new and improved method of program delivery.

As we continue to expand our reach and deepen our impact in all five boroughs of NYC, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley, we thank you for your continued commitment to our mission to empower young people to own their economic success.

Joseph A. Peri
President, Junior Achievement of New York

JA Volunteers

Volunteer for JA Finance Park

Capital One / JA Finance Park is a fun and interactive economic education program for students ages 12 - 18.  After an intensive in-class curriculum where students learn about financial institutions, the benefits of saving and investing, how to budget for real-world expenses and the connection between education and earning potential, students attend the Mobile Finance Park simulation. There they work in groups with volunteers in a virtually simulated life-like community. Students receive mock adult professional, personal and financial profiles. Using this information, they learn to navigate life by making choices for expenses like housing, utilities, transportation, entertainment and more.

We need you to make the on-site experience at Finance Park a meaningful one. It will be as unforgettable an experience for you as it will be for the students!

We are in need of volunteers with previous experience teaching and relating to high school students to adopt weekly lessons. Lessons will take place at our office in Midtown on Monday evenings and some Saturdays. Please click here for more information and to sign up!
